Messi Returns to Rescue Inter Miami
After a two-month absence, Lionel Messi made a triumphant return to the pitch, scoring twice and providing an assist to Luis Suárez in Inter Miami’s 3-1 comeback victory over Philadelphia Union at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
It had been 105 days since Messi last played for Inter Miami, with his previous match being a 3-3 draw against Saint Louis on June 2, where he scored his twelfth goal in twelve appearances. Messi now has fourteen goals in just three MLS games.
His performance was exceptional, as he effortlessly created opportunities and exploited defenses unaccustomed to such high-level pressure. Inter Miami’s win extends their winning streak to five matches, solidifying their position as leaders of the Eastern Conference with 62 points. They are now close to securing the Supporters' Shield for the best team in the regular season.
Under the guidance of coach Gerardo Martino, Inter Miami has a ten-point lead over Cincinnati, the second-place team, with six games remaining in the regular season.
