Kaká Reveals Morata's Request to Wear Iconic No. 22 at Milan
Kaká, the former Real Madrid and AC Milan star, disclosed that Spanish forward Álvaro Morata reached out to him with the desire to wear the number 22 jersey at Milan, although Morata ultimately chose to don the number 7 instead.
This revelation came ahead of the Champions League clash between the two most successful clubs in the competition, Real Madrid and AC Milan, meeting for the first time in 14 years in an official match at Santiago Bernabéu. Kaká, who experienced the rivalry from both perspectives, shined at Milan for six seasons (2003-2009) before his stint at Real Madrid (2009-2013), and then returned to Milan for the 2013-14 season.
In an interview with Milan's official media, Kaká shared his thoughts on what it means to play in such prestigious matches. "Playing in the Champions League is always special, and facing off with great teams is truly unique. A Milan vs. Real Madrid match is always a beautiful occasion. Just wearing the Milan jersey is a huge motivation, but playing against Real Madrid is something else," he stated.
Kaká, a 2002 World Cup winner with Brazil and a recipient of various titles with Milan and Real Madrid, also spoke about Carlo Ancelotti and Morata, both of whom have history with Real Madrid and Milan. "Carlo, with all his history at Milan as a player and coach, is reunited with his team. It’s going to be a match full of emotions," he noted.
"I’m very happy that Morata has joined Milan, the captain of the champion Spain team can bring a lot to the squad. He called me because he wanted the 22. The jersey isn't mine, I told him, it belongs to everyone. In the end, he chose another number, but it was a very respectful gesture to call me about it. I wish him and Milan the best," Kaká concluded.
