High-Grade Sprain Injury In Spain
Mikel Oyarzabal has been forced to withdraw from the Spanish national team after suffering a high-grade sprain in his left ankle during Spain's recent match against Serbia. The injury occurred in a collision with Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic, leading Oyarzabal to return immediately to San Sebastián for treatment with Real Sociedad’s medical staff.
Following an MRI scan in Belgrade on Friday morning, the diagnosis confirmed the initial suspicions of the Spanish team doctors—a high-grade ankle sprain. Oyarzabal flew back to Spain in a private flight to undergo further medical assessments in San Sebastián, accompanied by one of the national team doctors.
Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, expressed his regret over the injury, especially given Oyarzabal's key role in Spain's Euro 2024 victory. However, despite the forward's withdrawal, De la Fuente has opted not to call up a replacement. The Spanish squad will travel to Geneva for their upcoming match against Switzerland with 24 players.
