Harry Kane Makes History and Celebrates His 100 Matches with England
Harry Kane, the captain of the England national team, celebrated his century of appearances with the 'Three Lions' in the best way possible: with a brace that sealed a 2-0 victory over Finland in the Nations League. The Bayern Munich striker, who became the tenth player in England’s history to reach 100 international caps, was honored on the Wembley pitch with a golden cap presented to him by legend Frank Lampard.
Before the match, Kane took to the field with his wife and children, wearing special golden boots for the occasion. He didn’t take long to honor his historic career, as in the 57th minute, he broke the deadlock with a powerful shot from inside the box that put his team ahead. This goal marked his 67th for England, further solidifying his status as the all-time leading scorer for the national team.
England dominated the match from the start, but Finland, backed by the outstanding performance of their goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký, held out for more than 50 minutes. The relentless attacks from the English, led by Kane and a highly active Bukayo Saka on the right wing, forced the Finnish goalkeeper to make several crucial saves to keep his team in the game.
Kane came close to scoring the goal of the night with a spectacular bicycle kick, but Hrádecký managed to save the effort. However, just a few minutes later, the striker found the net again, and in the final stages of the match, he added his second goal after a pass from debutant Noni Madueke, brilliantly assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
With this victory, England now leads Group B of the Nations League alongside Greece, with two wins from two matches, meeting expectations after their relegation to League B in the previous edition.
Kane, at 30 years old, left the field to a standing ovation in the 80th minute, having reached another milestone in his illustrious career. With 100 international caps, he is now among the top ten players with the most appearances in England's history, behind legends such as Peter Shilton (125), Wayne Rooney (120), and David Beckham (115).
