FIFA to Compensate Barcelona with Millions for Player Injury
FIFA will compensate FC Barcelona with approximately 3 million euros for the long-term injury suffered by Ronald Araújo while on international duty with Uruguay.
This compensation falls under FIFA’s Club Protection Programme, which provides financial support to clubs when their players are injured during international matches.
According to this program, FIFA offers a daily compensation of 20,548 euros for each injured player, provided the injury exceeds 28 consecutive days of inactivity.
The maximum compensation per player per accident is 7.5 million euros, with a limit of 365 days of compensation.
Ronald Araújo sustained an injury on July 7, 2024, during a match between Uruguay and Brazil at the Copa América. Medical assessments determined that the defender would be sidelined for approximately four months.
Since FIFA’s compensation starts from the 29th day of inactivity, FC Barcelona will receive compensation from August 3 until Araújo’s estimated return in early November.
This period of about 89 days results in compensation close to 1.8 million euros.
