Fierce Criticism for Frenkie de Jong for Playing 'Like a Postman'
Barcelona couldn't defeat Napoli in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 (1-1), and once again, Xavi Hernandez's team faced strong criticism.
One of the players under scrutiny was Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who received pointed remarks from one of his compatriots: Rafael van der Vaart, former Real Madrid player.
Van der Vaart heavily criticized the 26-year-old midfielder, stating that his style of play resembles that of a "postman." He takes too long to pass the ball forward; instead, he keeps running with it. "Once you've moved away from your opponent, you need to keep the ball moving, pass the ball," commented the former midfielder.
Rafael van der Vaart played for several teams, including Real Madrid, Tottenham, Betis, Hamburg, and Ajax, the club where he made his debut. He also represented the Netherlands National Team and ultimately retired in 2018.
