De la Fuente on Carvajal: "We are Devastated"
Luis de la Fuente, the Spanish national team coach, stated that everyone is "devastated and affected" after the injury of Real Madrid player Dani Carvajal, who suffered a triple rupture in his right knee in the final minutes of the match against Villarreal, played on Saturday.
"I have been able to speak with him. We are all devastated and very affected," expressed the coach during the event where the Spanish men's football team received the 2024 International Sports Award from the Community of Madrid, after winning the European Championship for the fourth time in its history.
After medical tests, the defender was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a torn lateral collateral ligament, and a torn popliteal tendon in his right leg, with an estimated recovery time of eight to ten months.
Additionally, Joselu, a former teammate at Real Madrid and a colleague in the national team, as well as being his brother-in-law, stated that being family, he feels it as if it had happened to him and emphasized that he is sure Carvajal will come back "stronger than ever."
"Carvajal is very sad, but he will surely teach us a lesson. He is my family, and I feel it as if it had happened to me. I wish him the best of recoveries because he deserves it, and surely, due to his character and professionalism, he will recover very well and come back stronger than ever," he expressed.
