Cristiano Ronaldo Scores His 906th Goal
The Portuguese national team triumphed over Robert Lewandowski's Poland with a 3-1 victory, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who once again proved to be the driving force behind the team. With his goal, Ronaldo extended his career tally to an incredible 906 goals, solidifying Portugal's dominance in the Nations League group stage.
In Warsaw, Poland started the match aggressively, but Roberto Martínez's side quickly took control of the game, securing another victory to maintain their perfect run in the tournament—three matches, nine points.
Cristiano’s first threat came with a shot that hit the crossbar, and the first goal followed in the 26th minute. Bruno Fernandes headed a cross from Rúben Neves, setting up Bernardo Silva to fire the ball into the net.
In the 37th minute, a brilliant Rafael Leão broke through midfield, dribbled past several defenders, and shot towards the far post, where Ronaldo tapped in to score his 906th career goal.
Throughout the match, Ronaldo showed his versatility, frequently shifting from the center of the attack to the wings and even dropping back to help in defense.
On the Polish side, Lewandowski had their best chance of the first half, but Nuno Mendes made a crucial goal-line clearance to keep the hosts at bay.
Portugal seemed to have the game under control, but Poland reduced the deficit in the 78th minute when Piotr Zielinski, from Inter Milan, combined with Urbanski to score and bring the game to 2-1.
However, Polish hopes were dashed in the 88th minute when Bednarek accidentally deflected a cross from Nuno Mendes into his own net, sealing Portugal’s 3-1 victory.
In the closing moments, Portugal coach Roberto Martínez gave Samú Costa of Mallorca his debut with the national team.
Next up, Portugal will travel to Glasgow to face Scotland on Tuesday, while Poland will host Luka Modric's Croatia on the same day.
