Colombia Destroy an Unrecognizable United States
The Colombian national football team, led by Argentine coach Néstor Lorenzo, confirmed its status as a favorite for the upcoming Copa América 2024 by overwhelming the U.S. squad with a 5-1 victory in a friendly match held in Landover, Maryland.
Colombia, now undefeated in 22 consecutive matches (including South American Qualifiers), came into this match after defeating Spain in London (1-0) and Romania in Madrid (3-2). Meanwhile, the United States recently won the Concacaf Nations League in March.
The U.S. team played in a 4-3-3 formation, while Colombia used a 4-2-3-1 setup with Rafael Santos Borré as the lone striker.
The goals for the "Cafeteros" were scored by Jhon Arias (6'), Santos Borré (19'), Richard Ríos (77'), Jorge Carrascal (85'), and Luis Sinisterra (88'). Timothy Weah scored the lone goal for Team USA in the 58th minute.
