Besiktas Thrashes Galatasaray to Claim Turkish Super Cup!
With a brace from Ciro Immobile (his first goals since leaving Lazio this summer) and goals from Jonas Svensson, Rafa Silva, and Mustafa Hekimoglu, Besiktas humiliated Galatasaray (0-5) to win their tenth Turkish Super Cup, tying Trabzonspor for the second-most titles in Turkey.
Galatasaray failed to add their 18th trophy to their cabinet and fell far short of a deserved victory for their rivals, who took the lead just 21 seconds in with Immobile’s first goal. The Italian striker capitalized on a defender's slip to beat Fernando Muslera one-on-one, kicking off Besiktas's goal fest.
Okan Buruk's side tried to respond, with Hakim Ziyech having a chance just before halftime with a header that went over the crossbar. However, they ultimately conceded early in the second half when Svensson scored amidst a scramble in the box, making it 0-2.
Desperate, Galatasaray crashed against a defensive wall that successfully preserved the lead. The match was effectively decided when Immobile converted a penalty, marking a strong start to his adventure in Turkey after leaving Lazio. Having failed to score in three friendlies, he showcased his scoring prowess at the perfect moment. In added time, goals from Rafa Silva and Hekimoglu sealed a humiliating rout for Galatasaray.
