Another Problem for Barcelona! Their Qualification for the 2025 Club World Cup is in Jeopardy
It seems like bad news continues to pour in for Barcelona as they face a new setback. Their qualification for the 2025 Club World Cup is now at risk.
After drawing 1-1 with Napoli in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, the path is getting darker for the Blaugranas. To secure a spot in the Club World Cup, they need to at least reach the semifinals and hope that Atlético Madrid doesn't overturn their tie against Inter.
Why is this a problem? Barcelona currently sits below Atlético Madrid in the UEFA rankings, a table that will grant entries to the international competition, aside from the already qualified champions. The issue is that Xavi's Barcelona is not in the top 10 of this ranking.
The new FIFA Club World Cup will feature a revamped format with 32 teams participating. This change aims to add more value to the competition, scheduled to take place this summer in the United States.
