With a standout performance from Clàudia Pina, who scored twice, Barcelona defeated Chelsea 4–1 in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinals, moving closer to a third straight final.
Pajor opens the scoring after missed penalty
The match began with intensity at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. In the 10th minute, Alexia Putellas had a chance to put Barcelona ahead from the penalty spot, but her shot was saved by goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. However, the home side’s persistence paid off in the 35th minute when Ewa Pajor latched onto a through ball from Putellas to make it 1–0, scoring her 36th goal of the season.
Pina shines off the bench
In the second half, Clàudia Pina came on and completely shifted the momentum. In the 70th minute, following a build-up of 18 passes, Pina fired in Barcelona’s second goal. Although Sandy Baltimore pulled one back for Chelsea in the 74th minute, Irene Paredes restored the two-goal advantage with a powerful header in the 82nd. In added time, Pina capped off the night with her second goal, sealing a 4–1 victory for the home side.
With this dominant result, Barcelona takes a commanding lead into the second leg at Stamford Bridge, firmly positioning themselves as favorites to reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League final for the third consecutive season.
