"The Rematch" Argentina vs. Colombia Women's Football to Take Place in South Florida
The NSU Soccer Stadium, the second facility in the United States built specifically for women’s soccer, will host a unique match between the women’s national teams of Argentina and Colombia. This "Rematch" comes after their male counterparts faced off in the Copa America final in Miami, and now the women's teams return to the same city for another showdown.
Colombia’s women’s team is currently ranked among the top 8 teams globally, having reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 Women's World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games. The team features internationally renowned players such as Mayra Ramirez (Chelsea), Linda Caicedo (Real Madrid), Lucy Santos (Washington Spirit), and captain Catalina Usme (Galatasaray).
On the other side, Argentina’s women’s team ranks among the top three in South America and has qualified for the last three World Cups. Key players for the Albiceleste include Yamila Rodriguez (Santos), Sophia Braun (Kansas City Current), Aldana Cometti (Madrid CFF), and Romina Nuñez (Betis).
Colombia’s head coach, Angelo Marsiglia, shared his thoughts on the match: "Argentina is a strong and competitive rival. We chose to play against them because they are one of the teams we will face in our next international tournament. It's crucial for our players to compete against strong teams ranked highly by FIFA, like the Albiceleste, who, along with Brazil and Colombia, are top contenders in the continent."
Argentina’s coach, Germán Portanova, emphasized the importance of this match: "Scheduling this FIFA date for our team is crucial. Playing in the United States, the top country in women’s soccer, adds even more significance. Facing Colombia is incredible for us. We believe they are a few steps ahead with a talented generation of players excelling internationally. For us, playing against such opponents is vital, especially as we prepare for the 2025 Copa América. It’s all about growth and continuous learning."
Tommy Smith, president of Fort Lauderdale United FC, expressed his excitement: "The NSU Soccer Stadium is the premier destination for soccer and events in the South Florida region. We couldn't be more thrilled to host this epic rematch between Argentina and Colombia in our new stadium."
