Prisca Awiti's Mother Missed The Moment She Won Her Olympic Medal
One of the great stories from Paris 2024 was starred by the Mexican judoka Prisca Awiti, not only for winning the silver medal in judo in the -63 kg category, the first medal in this discipline for Mexico, but because her mother unfortunately couldn't accompany her in the final.
"If we can't enter, our hearts will be there. Our hearts are not out here, they are with her," were the words of Prisca's mother, representing the feelings of the family, boyfriend, and friends of the judoka, who couldn't enter the venue despite traveling to Paris because they didn't have tickets to see the final matches at the Champs de Mars Arena.
Prisca fulfilled her Olympic dream and stood on the podium at Paris 2024, a great success she was able to share with three of her four siblings who could enter the venue, while her mother stayed outside, preferring that her children see her shine.
Prisca firmly entered the history books of Mexican sports, as at 29 years old, she won Mexico's first judo medal at Paris 2024.
