Last Dance? Djokovic Challenges Nadal at Paris 2024
Novak Djokovic breezed through his opening match against Australian Matthew Ebden, winning 6-0, 6-1 in under an hour to reach the second round of the Olympic tennis tournament. There, he awaits the possibility of facing Spanish star Rafael Nadal, who needs to defeat Hungarian Marton Fucsovics on Sunday to set up the clash with Djokovic.
Djokovic eagerly anticipates the potential showdown with Nadal, which could be one of the final chapters in their legendary rivalry. "I've done my part; now he has to win his match," said the Serbian after his victory over Ebden.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion expressed his disappointment with the organizers for using a player who hasn't played singles in two years to fill a spot in the draw.
"I don't understand why they have to resort to a doubles player when there are other singles players ranked who can step in and have time to prepare," Djokovic remarked.
