From 'Game of Thrones' Actor to Olympic Gold Medalist
Daniel Wiffen couldn't claim the Iron Throne, but he did win Olympic gold.
The Irishman Daniel Wiffen clinched the Olympic gold medal in the 800-meter event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing first with a time of 7:28.9. He beat American Robert Finke (7:38.75) and Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri, who took silver and bronze respectively.
However, the historic Olympic gold medalist for Ireland has more than just swimming talents. Inside the Olympic Village, Wiffen's mysterious past came to light: he was part of the cast of HBO’s famous series "Game of Thrones," boasting that he appeared in one of the most iconic and memorable episodes, "The Rains of Castamere," where the "Red Wedding" takes place.
Reflecting on his acting past, Wiffen shared how he lived that phase of his life when he was very young and his parents wouldn't let him watch the show due to its adult content.
"I didn’t really know much about 'Game of Thrones' when I was younger. My parents wouldn’t let me watch it, but I guess my dad watched it all the time. Then my sister Elizabeth got a really good role: she was one of Frey's daughters (Neyela Frey, granddaughter of Lord Walder Frey)," recalled the swimmer.
He also remembers well when he and his twin brother Nathan were part of one of the show's most iconic scenes, the infamous "Red Wedding." "In our scene, we were in the hall, sitting on the steps below when the Starks came in," Wiffen recounted.
