Blake Snell Signs With the Los Angeles Dodgers
The reigning World Series champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, have struck a deal with star pitcher Blake Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner. The contract, announced this Tuesday on MLB.com, ties the lefty to the Dodgers for the next five seasons in Major League Baseball.
A Mega Deal an a Addition to the Rotation
The agreement will pay Blake Snell a whopping $182 million, averaging $36 million per season. Snell shared the news with fans by posting a picture on his Instagram account, proudly wearing the Dodgers uniform. The pitcher decided to explore free agency and turned down the second year of a previous two-year, $62 million contract he had signed with the San Francisco Giants.
Snell joins a starting rotation that’s shaping up to be one of the strongest for 2025, alongside stars like Tyler Glasnow, Japan’s Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and reigning National League MVP Shohei Ohtani, who could return to the mound next year. There are still questions about whether the Dodgers will retain veteran Clayton Kershaw or re-sign free agents Walker Buehler and Jack Flaherty.
Snell’s Recent Performance
Despite dealing with physical setbacks in 2024, Snell managed a 5-3 record with the Giants, posting a 3.12 ERA and racking up 145 strikeouts in 104 innings pitched.
In 2023, while playing for the San Diego Padres, Snell had an outstanding season, finishing with a 14-9 record, a stellar 2.25 ERA, and 234 strikeouts across 180 innings. That performance earned him his second Cy Young Award as the National League’s best pitcher.
Adding to the Cy Young he won in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League, Snell became just the seventh pitcher in MLB history to claim the award in both leagues.
The Dodgers now have a proven ace in their rotation, further solidifying their chances of repeating as World Series champions.
