Roma and Genoa share the spoils in pulsating 3-3 draw
Genoa battled back on three occasions to register a 3-3 draw against Roma in Paulo Fonseca's first league game at the Stadio Olimpico.
Cengiz Under fired Roma into an early lead with a sensational opener. The youngster evaded two defenders before slamming the ball into the top corner with the game only 10 minutes old. Whilst the Turkish attacker could have put the contest well beyond the means of the visitors had similar efforts moments afterwards not clipped the post.
Genoa scored the first of three comeback goals ten minutes later, Andrea Pinamonti smashed the ball into the roof of the net after Cristian Romero knocked the ball down for the striker. Roma raced into a 2-1 lead with the game just 30 minutes old. Fresh from signing a new deal with the club, Edin Dzeko delicately controlled a long ball before turning two defenders and fired a shot into the near post. A moment of quality from the Bosnian striker.
Unperturbed Genoa made it 2-2 from the penalty spot just before the break. Andrea Pinamonti again the instigator, winning a penalty from Juan Jesus. Mimmo Criscito stepped up and saw his penalty creep under the arms of Roma stopper Pau Lopez.
Into the second half, Roma took the lead thanks to goal-line technology. Aleksandar Kolarov's sweetly struck free-kick came off the crossbar and just went across the line. Genoa pushed on for a third and final leveller and got their due reward twenty minutes from time. Paolo Ghiglione whipped a cross to the back post, where Christian Kouame headed home.
