Talavera committed to Toluca but open to Europe move
The Mexican goalkeeper is enjoying playing with the national team but can't imagine playing for another Liga MX club.
Mexico goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera is in excellent form, but the chances he leaves his current club Toluca for one of Liga MX's grandes are slim.
"I've always said and I still maintain, that my idea is that if I leave, it has to be for Europe. It's very difficult for me to move in Mexico," the goalkeeper told reporters.
Though 30, the goalkeeper has been in excellent form with both club and country, and Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio has said Talavera has the talent to make a move overseas.
For now, the goalkeeper says he's staying focused on the present, where he appears to have won the Mexico No. 1 job. Talavera kept a clean sheet in Friday's 3-0 win over Canada and will look to do the same in Tuesday's match between the same sides at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca.
"I'm enjoying this time with the national team," the goalkeeper said. "It's an important step in my career because I'd pictured it and I think the time has arrived. I've always worked for this and I've had patience. It's one of the virtues a goalkeeper should have, and it's very difficult. I know we're going along a good path."
