Arsenal’s club record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has given his first interview as an Arsenal player in which he expresses his excitement in linking up with former teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan and how he’s looking to emulate Thierry Henry at the North London club.
Aubameyang sealed a reported £56m move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day. A deal which kick-started further transfers that saw Oliver Giroud move to Chelsea and Michy Batshuayi head to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Speaking to Arsenal’s in-house media team, the Gabonese international who scored 98 Bundesliga goals in four and a half seasons in Dortmund revealed that he was glad that the protracted deal came to an end, adding that he was excited to play with former team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
“Finally I am really happy to be here, of course, I can join Mhki (Henrikh Mkhitaryan) in this team so I am really happy to be here at this great team.”
Aubameyang has also been handed the number 14 shirt, formally worn by striker Thierry Henry, the clubs all-time leading goal scorer. The 28-year old admitted that the chance to play for Arsenal and to follow the example set by Henry was another decisive factor in the move.
“The club has such a big history, and they have had great players like Thierry Henry so it’s an example for our strikers.”
It is widely expected that Aubameyang will make his Arsenal debut on Saturday against Everton. You will be able to watch the Gunners taking on Everton at Emirates stadium Live & Exclusively on beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
