Ten-man Monza denied by Parma and the officials
Monza remains rooted to the bottom of Serie A after losing in 2-1 stoppage-time at Parma having been reduced to 10 men for much of the second half and seeing three goals disallowed by the match officials.
Monza thought it had got off to the perfect start when Patrick Ciurria lashed home in the second minute, but the effort was ruled out after VAR had spotted the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.
It was a sign of things to come as Daniel Maldini was also denied by the officials after he stroked the ball home in the ninth minute, only to be ruled offside.
The teams went in at the break having failed to break the deadlock, but the game changed dramatically on 54 minutes when Pablo Mari brought down Woyo Coulibaly just inside the box.
After a VAR check, a penalty was awarded and Mari received a second yellow card, leading to his dismissal.
Hernani fired home from the spot, beating Stefano Turati's dive in the Monza goal, before Monza was again denied what first appeared to be a good goal when Milan Duric nodded home from a set-piece minutes later, but the offside flag was up again.
Despite another disappointment, Monza fought to find an equaliser five minutes from time when Pedro Pereira converted, seemingly salvaging a point from a difficult day for the visitors.
But as the clock ticked past the seventh and final minute of stoppage-time, Parma won a corner and Lautaro Valenti got up to glance home at the near post, breaking Monza hearts and handing all three points to the hosts.
Victory moved Parma up to 14th on the table on 18 points, but Monza, with just one win this term, remains stuck on the bottom with 10 points after a 10th defeat from 18 matches.
