Luis de la Fuente Reacts to Lamine Yamal's Injury Setback
The Spanish national team coach commented on the absence of Barcelona's star after his ankle injury was confirmed.
Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spanish national team, explained today in Las Rozas that it was deemed best for Lamine Yamal not to travel to Madrid after receiving the medical reports from Barcelona to confirm the winger's injury. He wished Yamal a "speedy recovery."
"Barcelona, as all clubs do, sent us the report with the relevant tests, and we thought it was unnecessary for him to travel again to go through that process, which was no longer needed," De la Fuente explained before the Marca Awards ceremony for last season's best players.
"I wish him a speedy recovery," the national team coach added regarding the Barcelona player, who is sidelined with a grade one injury of the right ankle syndesmosis, which will keep him out for two to three weeks according to the club's report. This injury also prevented him from playing against Real Sociedad this past Sunday.
The Riojan coach has called up Bryan Gil (Girona) to replace him in the squad for the Nations League matches against Denmark at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen and against Switzerland at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
De la Fuente admitted that "injuries are unfortunate," without making further comments. "If there had been other types of matches, there would have been injuries as well. It just coincides with this period, and all we can do is hope the injured players recover quickly, so their clubs and the national team can count on them," he told reporters.
