Haaland Breaks Norway's All-time Scoring Record
It was only a matter of time, and it finally happened. The striker has become Norway's all-time top scorer.
Seeing him score goals match after match, it was clear that this moment would come. The only question was when Erling Haaland would become Norway's all-time top scorer. That milestone was reached last night.
Top scorer, but slower
At home, the long-haired striker needed just 7 minutes to score against Slovenia, netting his 33rd goal for the national team, equaling Jørgen Juve, who had long been the offensive reference for the Norwegian side.
But the Manchester City player, captaining the team in the absence of Martin Ødegaard, is insatiable when it comes to scoring, and at the hour mark, he broke Juve’s old record from the 1930s, capping off his team’s 3-0 victory.
It took Haaland just 36 international appearances to claim a record that he could push to unprecedented heights, given that he’s only 24 years old. While Juve lost his record, the former player-turned-journalist can still be proud of having set it after only 27 matches.
This is not the first record Haaland has broken this season. Off to an incredible start, he’s already netted 14 goals in 13 matches across all competitions. The striker needed only 105 appearances in a Manchester City shirt to reach 100 goals, matching the pace of Cristiano Ronaldo, the fastest player to achieve this total across Europe’s top five leagues.
Thanks to their prolific scorer, Norway is cementing their dominance in Group 3, holding a three-point lead over Austria, who they will face away next Sunday, as they move closer to promotion to League A of the Nations League.
