Unai Simón to Undergo Surgery
Unai Simón, the international goalkeeper for Athletic Club, revealed on Monday that he's playing in Euro 2024 with a wrist injury that will require surgery after Spain's participation in the tournament. As a result, he will start the next season later with his club.
"I will undergo surgery after the Euro ends; the recovery time will be discussed with the specialist who performs the operation," he disclosed at a press conference during the Spanish national team's training camp in Donaueschingen.
"It's something I haven't wanted to give importance to until after the Euro because it hasn't prevented me from playing, as shown throughout the season, nor has it worried me. Hopefully, I'll only have to talk about it on July 15, but until then, my focus is on the national team," he stated.
Unai Simón declined to provide details on when or how he injured his wrist outside of the field of play and avoided discussing anything that might distract from Spain's upcoming match against Italy on Thursday.
"I've already answered about the wrist and mentioned that I will have surgery," he firmly reiterated when asked again. "I don't want to talk about the wrist because it doesn't cause me any issues in competing, and after the Euro, we can discuss it calmly."
