The Mask Kylian Mbappé Will Wear at the Euros
The French forward will have to wear a mask for the remainder of Euro 2024 after suffering a nose fracture against Austria.
French forward Kylian Mbappé, who fractured his nose in Monday's match against Austria in the first round of Group D at Euro 2024, will play with a protective face mask during the tournament. The mask must be made of "soft, light, and padded materials," according to the International Board's rules for this season, published on their official website.
In its fourth article, referring to 'other types of equipment,' it states: "Non-dangerous protective equipment, such as headgear, face masks, knee and elbow pads made of soft, light, and padded materials, is permitted," without further specifications about these types of gear.
Mbappé suffered a nasal fracture on Monday during the match against Austria after his face collided with defender Kevin Danso's shoulder. He was taken to a hospital in Düsseldorf directly from the stadium and underwent medical tests. Afterward, it was decided that surgery would not be performed at this time.
The new Real Madrid player returned to the French camp in Paderborn, about two hours by road from Düsseldorf, and will undergo treatment over the coming days to return to competition with a protective face mask.
Mbappé himself took his injury with good humor. Shortly after suffering the severe blow that fractured his nose, the French star took to social media.
"Any ideas for the mask?" he asked his millions of followers. Mbappé will have to wear the mask for the rest of the tournament. It remains to be seen if he can become the hero France needs to win their third Euro.
