Setback for Spain Two Days Before Euro 2024 Debut
Aymeric Laporte did not train with the group and is a serious doubt for the Euro 2024 debut. Here we tell you what’s going on.
Aymeric Laporte is a serious doubt for Spain’s Euro 2024 opener, suffering from muscle discomfort that will prevent him from training with the group in the penultimate session before the match in Berlin against Croatia.
Despite Laporte being part of the squad traveling to Berlin on Friday, according to sources from the Spanish Federation reported to EFE, the center-back has slim chances of being ready for the Croatia game due to a muscle issue that arose on Wednesday.
Laporte will undergo "specific recovery work" with a trainer on Thursday, and coach Luis de la Fuente will monitor his progress to make a final decision. Robin Le Normand and Nacho Fernández are expected to be Spain's starting center-back pair against Croatia.
The final of the Saudi Cup with his club, Al Nassr, in which he couldn’t play due to suspension, caused Laporte to join the Spanish national team’s pre-tournament camp later and miss the first friendly against Andorra. He played his first minutes, coming off the bench, against Northern Ireland in the final warm-up match before traveling to Germany.
