No De Bruyne, No Kroos, This Is the Player with the Most Key Passes at EURO 2024
Jules Koundé, the right-back for the French national team, leads the EURO 2024 in "key passes" with seven, according to “Be Soccer Pro” statistics. He has one more than Germany's Joshua Kimmich and two more than both his compatriot Adrien Rabiot and the Netherlands' Cody Gakpo.
The Barcelona player, who was named the best player in the Round of 16 match against Belgium following a 1-0 victory, has excelled not only defensively but also offensively. Koundé has started all four matches for France, with Didier Deschamps maintaining a consistent backline featuring Theo Hernández, Dayot Upamecano, and William Saliba.
Following Koundé, Kimmich, Rabiot, and Gakpo in the key passes statistics are Spain's Álex Grimaldo and Pedri González, Portugal's Joao Cancelo, Hungary's Rolland Sallai, France's Ousmane Dembele, and Spain's Dani Olmo, each with four key passes, three less than Koundé.
"He's a top-level player. He was criticized in the past in that position, but he plays right-back for Barcelona in almost every game. Defensively, he's very good, knows how to hold his ground, defend, and stop many players... And in attack, he's capable of contributing more as a dribbler. His EURO has been perfect so far," praised Guy Stephan, assistant to Didier Deschamps in the French national team’s coaching staff.
