Modric Leaves Croatia? This is What The Player Declared
Luka Modric did not want to reveal, after his team was practically eliminated from Euro 2024 after drawing against Italy (1-1), whether he will leave the Balkan team after eighteen years wearing his country's shirt.
Almost in tears over a cruel draw, Italy's goal in the 98th minute practically snatched the ticket to the Round of 16 from his team. Modric responded briefly to a question about whether the match against Italy could be his last with Croatia: "We'll see, it's not the time for those stories," he said.
"Football can be cruel sometimes. It has been shown again, but well, that's the way it is. We didn't deserve that goal, I don't know where the referee got eight minutes of stoppage time from. Sometimes you have to lose, but it's not a consolation. Football is cruel, that has been proven," he insisted.
Modric, chosen as man of the match by UEFA, pointed out that nothing went well for his team in the Euros. Not even in matches from other groups where Croatia could have survived in the competition with favorable scores. "Yesterday we needed a point between Scotland and Hungary and they scored in the 99th minute. Today in the 98th. Destiny was not on our side," he concluded.
