Kimmich: "Not Sure if Spain Is Happy to Face Us"
Joshua Kimmich, Germany's defender, said in a press conference that he doesn't know if the Spanish national team is "happy" to face his team in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals and predicted a tough match that every player looks forward to.
The Bayern Munich player, a regular starter under Julian Nagelsmann on the right side of the German team, analyzed the Germany-Spain match and highlighted that Luis de la Fuente's team might not be thrilled about crossing paths with them.
"I think it will be a good match. Every neutral fan will be happy for sure. I'm not sure if Spain was happy to meet us in the quarterfinals. You always look forward to games like this. Spain has seemed like the most consistent team. They won all their games with a lot of confidence. It will be tough for both teams," he said.
"Spain played very good matches. We also had some interesting games in the tournament. The Spanish team seemed the most stable to me, so it will be a good match that all the fans are looking forward to. If you want to win the tournament, you can't avoid Spain. I'm really looking forward to the match," he added.
He was also asked about Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, two of Spain's most in-form players who performed great in the Round of 16 against Georgia. "Both play very well on the wings, and it will be interesting. We need to find team solutions to stop them. We want to beat Spain; that's definitely our goal," he said.
Kimmich noted that Spain is a team that likes to control the game, something Germany also tries to do. In his opinion, Germany will need "dynamism, courage, and strength" to win. "We hope the home advantage will also be there. In the end, it will be our responsibility to get the fans behind us," he commented.
Regarding his position, whether as a midfielder before Toni Kroos' return or at right-back where he plays now, he indicated that it doesn't matter to him which part of the field he plays because he always wants to "win" no matter where he is.
