Gerard Piqué's Positive Prediction for Rising Star Lamine Yamal
Former Barcelona and Spanish national team player Gerard Piqué has stated in an interview that the young star will define an era in football.
Former Barcelona and Spanish national team player Gerard Piqué stated in an interview with Sport Bild that Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal "will define an era."
The retired defender elaborated, saying, "There is a general generational shift in the Euro Cup, with new players emerging. Lamine Yamal in Spain, Musiala in Germany, and Bellingham in England."
"There are several young players with great potential, and the Euro Cup will be a turning point," he added.
When asked about the host team, Germany, Piqué maintained that "the home advantage could greatly benefit the Germans," as "their team is young and currently in a rebuilding phase."
"Of course, Germany has a chance to win the title. They are competitive, have often won tournaments, and I am convinced that as hosts, they are a very tough opponent," he continued.
Piqué mentioned being "surprised by some players who were not included" when seeing Germany's squad, noting that "Hummels is a strong player with an incredible career who had a good season at Borussia. His performances greatly contributed to Dortmund reaching the Champions League final."
"From the outside, it’s surprising that he isn’t there. But I don’t have all the information. We have to see how the team functions, but the young players have a lot of talent," he added.
He also compared Julian Nagelsmann’s team to Spain: "Our situation is similar to the German team. It’s a generational shift. In recent years, Spain has always performed well in tournaments and is a title contender," he noted.
