Cristiano’s Farewell to the Euros
Cristiano Ronaldo says goodbye to the Euro Cups after 20 years
Cristiano Ronaldo played his last match in a European Championship after France knocked out Portugal on penalties in the Quarterfinals of Euro 2024 in Germany. Cristiano bids farewell to the European tournament as one of the best players to have ever participated.
Cristiano leaves the Euro as the player who has played in the tournament the most times, with this being his sixth edition with Portugal. His first was 20 years ago when he reached the final in 2004 against Greece. In 2008, he made it to the Quarterfinals before being eliminated by Germany, and four years later, he lost in the semifinals to Spain.
However, Cristiano did manage to lift the Euro trophy in the 2016 edition, beating France 1-0. Unfortunately for Ronaldo, he couldn’t celebrate on the field as he was injured in the 25th minute.
Cristiano also holds the record for the most goals scored in European Championships, with a total of 14, making him a goal-scoring machine. Additionally, he is the player with the most assists in Euro history, with a total of seven.
He is the player with the most matches played, with a total of 27, and therefore, also the player with the most minutes played, with a total of 2,335. He holds the record for the most victories and is the player who has captained his national team the most times, with 18.
Now, with Cristiano’s sad farewell from the Euros, it’s unfortunate for all football fans that we will never see the dream final between the Portuguese star and the Argentine, Lionel Messi.
