Albania Exits Euro 2024 with More Fines than Points
The UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has fined the Albanian Football Federation for the third time, this time with an amount of $92,589 for incidents that occurred during the third group stage match of Euro 2024 against Spain.
The financial sanction is once again due to problems caused by some Albanian fans, who threw objects onto the field, displayed inappropriate messages, lit flares during the match, and interrupted the game due to a fan who invaded the pitch.
This is the third fine that UEFA has imposed on the Albanian federation, which was also fined in the first two match days, against Italy ($40,000) and Croatia (€50,844), for the same reasons. The total amount of fines is $183,439.
With this, the Albanians ended up with more sanctions imposed by UEFA than points earned during the Euro. The Eagles finished their participation with only one point from a draw against Croatia (2-2), while their other two results were defeats against Italy (2-1) and Spain (1-0), finishing last in Group B.
