(Video) Mbappé Back in Training After Breaking His Nose
Just two days before the match against the Netherlands this Friday in Leipzig, Kylian Mbappé's participation is still uncertain. After breaking his nose last Monday against Austria, the French star trained separately with a small splint on the injured area. He wasn't wearing a mask, but he did some running and even took some shots at goal.
There was no intense activity or contact play for the captain and key player of Didier Deschamps' team. He also had a brief chat with the coach on the field.
This was Mbappé's first session since fracturing his nose. An immediate operation was ruled out, but future surgery wasn't dismissed. It was decided he would continue in the competition, playing with a protective mask.
On the training field at the German city's Paderborn stadium, he didn't wear any noticeable protection, just a small bandage and splint. This was after the accidental collision with the shoulder of Austrian defender Kevin Danso. The impact came from the momentum of his header. Mbappé seemed to recall the moment while talking with Deschamps, based on his gestures during the session.
Smiling at several moments, he did some light jogging separately at first, appearing on the field half an hour after his teammates, and later kicked the ball around. The question remains whether he'll play against the Netherlands.
He's not ruled out yet, and the match is crucial for securing both mathematical qualification and the top spot in Group D against the Netherlands. The winner will claim both at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig this Friday.
