Vinícius Jr.'s First Match After Ballon d'Or Drama
We don’t know if Vinícius Jr. has moved on from the Ballon d’Or drama, but he is back on the field after eight days, having seen his La Liga match against Valencia postponed.
And he seems to have returned charged up. The Brazilian was the architect of the first goal for Real Madrid, who found themselves trailing on the scoreboard since the 12th minute; he scored from the penalty spot, marking his first goal following the controversy surrounding the award on Monday, October 28.
Vinícius Jr.'s Goal vs. AC Milan
During stretches of the match, especially when "Vini" touched the ball, the Santiago Bernabéu crowd showered him with applause, as he is considered one of the most influential players in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
With the goal, the Brazilian forward reached four goals in four matches in this Champions League season, but Real Madrid suffered a painful defeat in the European competition.
AC Milan defeated Los Blancos 3-1, handing them their second consecutive loss across all competitions, where they have conceded seven goals and scored only one.
Santiago Bernabéu Honors DANA Victims
On Tuesday, before the Champions League match against AC Milan, the Santiago Bernabéu paid tribute to those who died and were affected by DANA in the Valencia Community, displaying a giant flag from the region on the west side of the stadium and a banner in the south end with the slogan "Valencia somos todos," which the players wore on their jerseys and black armbands.
A minute of silence was observed before the match in memory of the deceased.
Players from Milan also participated in the tribute, wearing jerseys with the same message as Real Madrid’s, but in Italian: “Siamo tutti Valencia,” along with black armbands.
Real Madrid expressed its support similarly to last Thursday, when they launched a campaign through their Foundation, in partnership with the Red Cross, to raise funds for those affected by the storm, with the club donating one million euros “to help the numerous families in critical situations who need all our help and solidarity.”
Additionally, in the pre-match press conference, Carlo Ancelotti expressed his sorrow before the first question.
“We are saddened. That’s the emotion we have. We are very close to Valencia and all the towns that have been affected. I hope this can be resolved soon. I want you to understand that talking about football right now is a bit complicated, as is playing football. We are part of this country, and all of this affects us greatly. We should not disrespect those who are suffering. I will try to keep this press conference as simple as possible because I have no desire to talk about football,” he began.
These are the sentiments that Real Madrid wanted to convey to all those affected before their fourth matchday in the Champions League.
