This Coach has Surprised Luis Enrique
Luis Enrique, manager of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), declared himself "a big fan" of Girona's coach, his fellow countryman Míchel, and considered that the Catalan team will be one of the few to challenge them for ball possession.
"No one expected Girona to qualify for the Champions League. I watched almost all of their matches last season, and they were one of the best teams in Spain, with a very entertaining style of play. I'm a big fan of Míchel," he said in the press conference before PSG’s Champions League debut at the Parc des Princes.
"They now have their reward," he added, "with their debut at a legendary European stadium like the Parc des Princes. I congratulate them."
The Asturian coach predicted that the Catalan team "will be brave, they will attack," as they did in their last league match, a defeat against Barcelona (1-4), and warned that Girona will be "one of the few teams" to contest possession of the ball.
With four wins in as many league matches, led by the goals of Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola, PSG has not missed Kylian Mbappé so far, who left for Real Madrid in June. "What I value is the present, and right now, that is this team," stated Luis Enrique.
This is also one of the youngest teams in this Champions League, with all its players under 30 years old (except for captain Marquinhos).
The former Barcelona coach opined that this youth is not "a handicap" to winning a Champions League. "It's hard to argue how much experience is necessary. I don't set limits for myself, and neither do my players.
