Marquinhos is Proud of PSG for This Reason
Marquinhos, captain of PSG and the most veteran player in the squad at just 30 years old, praised the Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves (19 years old) on the eve of their match against Girona in the Champions League, and stated that he feels proud to be part of a team "without as many stars" as in previous years.
"Even though we don’t have as many stars, I’m proud of this team," declared the central defender to the press, alluding to the squads of recent years that included players like Kylian Mbappé, Messi, and Neymar.
The Brazilian was full of praise for one of PSG’s new faces, Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves.
"He's a beast, he adapted quickly, and it's not easy to understand what the coach (Luis Enrique) wants. By the second game, he had already figured it out. Even though he's very young, he already shows maturity," he said.
The defender also expressed concern about "the load of matches" brought on by the new Champions League format, which "could jeopardize the health of the players."
Additionally, he excluded PSG from the list of favorites, as he believes that status belongs to those who have won the Champions League in recent years.
