Kylian Mbappé Responds to Claims He Joined Real Madrid Solely for the Champions League
After scoring on his Champions League debut with Real Madrid, the French forward addressed claims that he joined the club solely to win the UCL.
French forward Kylian Mbappé, who scored one of the goals in Real Madrid’s victory over Stuttgart, expressed his satisfaction with the win in their European debut. He stressed that it’s "negative to say" he joined the club solely to win the Champions League because "there is much more to it."
Mbappé played his first European match with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu against Stuttgart.
"It was a great night. We wanted to start with a win, and it was a tough match. It's important to win the first games because the Champions League has changed, and you need to win quickly. It was difficult because they played well, and we had problems playing out from the back in the first half. In the second half, we had chances to score, put pressure on, played well, and scored," Mbappé said in an interview with Movistar +.
"Step by step, with all the Madrid fans, we worked hard and did well to win," added the Frenchman, who scored his first European goal with Real Madrid.
"I can do more. With each game, I feel better, and I know I will score more," Mbappé noted, emphasizing that playing for Real Madrid means competing for "every title."
Only Champions League Motivation?
"It's negative to say that I came only to win the Champions League. We try to win every match, today we won, and we’ll see what’s next," he said.
Mbappé also commented on his teammate Endrick Felipe, who scored the third goal to seal the victory in added time.
"He scores his goal and celebrates with the fans. He's an eighteen-year-old kid, gets a minute and scores his goal. It’s great," he concluded.
