Inter Milan smiles: Marcus Thuram set to return for the Champions League Semifinal vs Barcelona
Marcus Thuram, the French striker for Inter Milan, trained with the rest of the squad on Tuesday for the first time since picking up an adductor injury in his left leg on April 18. That knock had kept him out of Inter’s last three games, but signs now point to him being available for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against FC Barcelona.
The forward, who has formed a deadly partnership up front with Argentine star Lautaro Martínez, already looked sharp during an intense solo session on Monday — a final fitness test before rejoining full training. His return to group practice is a major boost for Simone Inzaghi, although a final decision on whether he starts will be made closer to kickoff.
Thuram, a vital piece in Inter’s attack
With 17 goals so far this season, Thuram has been a key figure in Inter’s attacking setup. His absence was clearly felt in recent matches, where his replacements — Argentine Joaquín Correa, Iranian Mehdi Taremi, and Austrian Marko Arnautović — all failed to score, and the team lost three straight games.
Alongside Thuram’s return, Inzaghi will also have Dutch wingback Denzel Dumfries available, who got some minutes over the weekend against AS Roma, as well as Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who is expected to come off the bench. The only confirmed absence is French defender Benjamin Pavard, who will likely be replaced by German youngster Yann Bisseck. With some big names back in action, Inter Milan is slowly getting its structure back just in time for one of the toughest tests of their season.
