Inter Milan lose key defender to injury just days before Champions League Semifinal against Barcelona
Frenchman Benjamin Pavard, defender for Inter Milan, had to be substituted during their Serie A clash against Roma after taking a knock that left him nursing his left ankle, just three days before the Champions League semifinals against Barcelona.
A major blow for Simone Inzaghi
Pavard, a guaranteed starter in Simone Inzaghi’s three-man defense, went down injured after a collision with Turkish right-back Ceki Zelik from Roma. Medical staff rushed onto the pitch to assist him as the player pointed clearly to his left ankle. Unable to continue, he was replaced in the 15th minute by German defender Yann Bisseck.
Doubtful for the crucial match at Montjuïc
With just three days to go until the first leg of the Champions League semifinals against Barcelona, Pavard’s availability is now up in the air — another setback for an Inter side that has already been knocked out of the Coppa Italia and is dealing with additional injury concerns ahead of this critical clash at Montjuïc.
In the coming hours, the World Cup winner will undergo medical tests to determine the extent of the injury and how long he might be sidelined.
