Carvajal and Ancelotti Defend Vinícius Jr.: "Unacceptable"
Both the captain and the coach of Real Madrid backed the Brazilian forward after another controversial incident this weekend.
Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal and Coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Vinícius Junior after his gesture to silence the Real Sociedad fans at the Reale Arena. They explained that his reaction was provoked by "very ugly" actions from the crowd, even during the warm-up.
Carvajal stated, "From inside the field, we heard insults directed at Vini. When you're provoked, it's natural to respond, and it's common for players to react in such situations when they’re not left alone."
Ancelotti echoed this sentiment, choosing not to comment on Vinícius's gesture immediately after the match but later elaborated. He described the incident as a response to repeated insults and criticized the ongoing mistreatment of his player.
"What has happened to Vinícius over the years is unbearable," Ancelotti said. "I can understand booing a rival, but insults during the warm-up are unacceptable."
Ancelotti urged everyone to focus less on Vinícius and more on what is happening in the stadiums, noting that such behavior is aimed at destabilizing his player because he is a significant threat on the field.
Carvajal proposed stricter punishments for those who commit racist acts. "As Real Madrid's captain, I stand firmly against any racial abuse in our league and football. We need to implement tougher protocols to eradicate these issues," he concluded.
