Atlético Madrid's Injury Absences for the Champions League Match Against Benfica
French defender Robin Le Normand is the most notable absence for the *Rojiblancos* ahead of their Champions League match against Benfica.
Robin Le Normand, sidelined due to a knock sustained during the derby against Real Madrid, is out of the 22-man squad selected by Diego Simeone for the trip to Lisbon on Tuesday for Wednesday's Champions League match against Benfica, alongside Pablo Barrios and César Azpilicueta.
“Le Normand will not travel with the team due to the knock he suffered in the derby against Real Madrid, and he is currently undergoing tests by specialists,” the club announced on Tuesday. Pablo Barrios, absent for the sixth consecutive match but nearing his return, and César Azpilicueta, missing for a third game due to muscle injuries sustained three and one week ago, respectively, are also ruled out.
Le Normand’s absence, as a key starter all season and the outfield player with the most minutes under Simeone, will force the coach to rethink the defensive lineup. Axel Witsel is a potential replacement, given that Azpilicueta is also unavailable for the match against the Portuguese side.
The 22-man squad includes: goalkeepers Jan Oblak, Juan Musso, and Antonio Gomis; defenders Nahuel Molina, José María Giménez, Axel Witsel, Reinildo Mandava, Clement Lenglet, and Javi Galán; midfielders Marcos Llorente, Koke Resurrección, Rodrigo de Paul, Javi Serrano, Conor Gallagher, and Thomas Lemar; wingers Samuel Lino and Rodrigo Riquelme; and forwards Giuliano Simeone, Antoine Griezmann, Alexander Sørloth, Julián Álvarez, and Ángel Correa.
