Arteta's Great Praise for Luis Enrique in the Champions League
Arsenal's coach, Mikel Arteta, admitted to being a "big admirer" of Luis Enrique, the PSG manager, highlighting that he has left a mark on every team he has been part of, both as a player and as a coach.
Before the clash that will see both teams face off tomorrow in the second round of the Champions League, Arteta showered Luis Enrique with compliments, and mentioning him during a press conference brought "a smile to his face."
"I am a big admirer of Luis Enrique. He has an incredible personality, enormous charisma, great energy, and always supports his young players. What I love is that wherever he has been, as a player or coach, his footprints are everywhere," he stated.
According to the Donostia native, the approach the former Spanish national team coach has toward life and the profession "is something truly admirable and from which to learn."
"The word is honesty. He looks you in the eyes and tells you what he thinks. Players appreciate that. You may like it more or less, but that's how it is. I have two or three players who have been with him in the national team, and they all say they enjoyed playing for him," he commented.
Arteta considered that PSG is "at the highest level you can find in football," but that this will pose a good test to see how far his team can go.
In his opinion, the main strength of the Parisian team is its ability to dominate all phases of the game and its clear intent to recover the ball quickly once they lose it.
The Arsenal manager, who still does not know if he will be able to count on Ben White and Calafiori this Tuesday, fondly recalled his time at PSG, where he made his professional debut, and acknowledged that when Barcelona brought him back to their squad, he did not want to leave Paris.
"I loved every minute. I will always be grateful to the club and to Luis Fernández for believing in me when I was 17 or 18 years old. It was my platform, in a wonderful club and in the most beautiful city in Europe, with teammates who helped me define who I was going to be as a player," he asserted.
