(VIDEO) PSG Snatches a Last-Minute Win Over Girona in the Champions League
Girona conceded in the 90th minute against PSG, thanks to a goal from Portuguese left-back Nuno Mendes. His seemingly harmless shot slipped between the legs of Girona’s Argentine goalkeeper, Paulo Gazzaniga, giving Luis Enrique’s team the win in the Champions League.
In the first half, Girona managed to hold PSG at bay at the Parc des Princes, with the game going into halftime scoreless. The Catalan side grew into the match as the half progressed.
While PSG had the few chances in the opening 45 minutes, the best opportunity came from Marco Asensio with a shot across goal before he was subbed off with an injury in the 39th minute. Girona, under Míchel Sánchez, failed to register a shot on target against Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov but successfully contained Luis Enrique’s squad.
However, in their historic UEFA Champions League debut, Girona eventually fell to PSG. Before Mendes' fortunate goal, PSG had several clear chances, with Ousmane Dembélé in the 62nd minute, Randal Kolo Muani in the 82nd, and Achraf Hakimi in the 85th. PSG walked away with their first three points of the tournament against Míchel’s team.
