That's Why He's "The Special One": The Hefty Salary Mourinho Will Pocket at Fenerbahçe
Recently appointed as the new coach of Fenerbahçe after a five-month period of inactivity, much is expected of José Mourinho, especially because the "Special One" has signed a rather lucrative contract.
After managing in the Liga Nos, the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga, José Mourinho is ready to discover a fifth league in his long and successful career. Five months after being dismissed from AS Roma, the Portuguese coach has signed a two-season contract, lasting until June 2026, with Fenerbahçe.
Although the Istanbul-based club hasn't won the Süper Lig title since 2014, finishing second in the last campaign, the mission of the "Special One" will be to restore the reputation of the Turkish team and bring it back into the spotlight. While the challenge seems stimulating and very interesting on paper, it's certainly not the only reason that led José Mourinho to accept the challenge. In order to attract a renowned coach and give themselves a chance of success in this new chapter, Fenerbahçe has decided to open their wallet.
$22.8 million over two years
According to information from the Portuguese media outlet A Bola, the Istanbul club has decided to offer a rather lucrative salary to the "Special One", estimated at $11.3 million per season, totaling $22.8 million over the entirety of the contract. Undoubtedly, this persuaded the main stakeholder if he had any doubts at the moment of signing the deal. After receiving a welcome worthy of a rock star, José Mourinho can now boast of having a salary to match.
