Süper Lig: Sanción de seis partidos sin público al Trabzonspor
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has imposed a punishment of six home matches without spectators, as well as financial fines, on Trabzonspor.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) imposed a sanction on Trabzonspor this Wednesday, consisting of six home games without spectators, in addition to fines, for the aggression of numerous fans against Fenerbahçe players after the match on March 17th.
During the match, held at the Papara Park stadium in Trabzon, where Fenerbahçe won 3-2, local fans threw plastic bottles at the visiting team, and after the match, many of them stormed the field.
The Istanbul players defended themselves, resulting in a brawl from which the players were rescued by security forces, who escorted them to the locker rooms.
The incident caused a scandal, and the Federation has now imposed a sanction on Trabzonspor to play six home games without spectators, in addition to a fine of three million liras (almost 90,000 euros).
This is added to another sanction of 112,000 liras (3,300 euros) for using the stadium's sound system to support the home team, as well as a one-game ban and a fine of 13,000 liras (380 euros) for Trabzonspor's assistant coach, Egemen Korkmaz.
The TFF also fines three players and two technical staff members of Fenerbahçe for engaging in a fight with the fans who jumped onto the field.
Galatasaray defeated Hatayspor 1-0, with Mauro Icardi's header securing the victory, momentarily extending their lead over Fenerbahce. Watch Highlights.
Dutch forward Jayden Oosterwolde must pay 52,000 liras (1,500 euros), in addition to receiving a match suspension, and Turkish goalkeeper Irfan Can Egribayat will pay 13,000 liras, and also miss one match.
Trabzonspor is currently in third place in the Turkish Super League, but is 30 points behind Fenerbahçe, who are in second place.
Fenerbahçe held an extraordinary congress yesterday, where its president, businessman Ali Koç, denounced the fans' aggression in Trabzon as a planned attempt to sabotage their success in the Super League but ruled out the option, rumored by the media, of withdrawing from the competition.
