Mourinho to Fenerbahçe!
The Portuguese coach has reached an agreement with the SüperLig club for the next two years, with an option for a third year.
Fenerbahçe, the second most successful club in Turkey, has reached an agreement with Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho and will sign a two-year contract this weekend, Turkish sports media reported on Friday.
The Istanbul club's president, Ali Koç, travelled to London to sign a 2+1 year contract with Mourinho and attend the Champions League final this Saturday with the Portuguese coach, according to Turkish outlet Sportsdigitale.
The club has not yet commented on the matter, but the contract of current coach Ismail Kartal expires this Friday.
For several weeks, former Fenerbahçe president Aziz Yildirim, who is a candidate to reclaim the position in the upcoming elections on June 8-9, has promised to bring Mourinho if elected, and even stated yesterday that he already had everything agreed with the Portuguese coach.
"Mourinho is coming for two years. If we become champions, the contract will be extended. He will come, and my coach for the next three years will be Mourinho," Yildirim told the press yesterday.
The electoral campaign between the former president, who led the club from 1998 to 2018, and the current president, who is running for re-election, is marked by numerous public controversies over the club's finances.
In response to the news that his rival Ali Koç has reached an agreement with Mourinho, Yildirim told Fenerbahçe's leadership that he had no issue with it, as he would work with the Portuguese coach if he won the elections, according to Sportsdigitale.
