Galatasaray Thrashes Demirspor to Close in on Süper Lig Lead
Galatasaray continues their perfect start to the new Süper Lig season, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Demirspor, with goals from Akturkoglu, Yilmaz, Dries Mertens, Bardakci, and an own goal by Semih Güler.
Despite having a game in hand, the reigning champions have won all three of their matches so far, dominating Demirspor with 57% possession and six shots on target.
The scoring began with Akturkoglu's sharp play in the 9th minute. Demirspor didn’t help their cause when Semih Güler scored an own goal in the 18th minute. Yilmaz (31’) and Dries Mertens (37’) then wrapped up a blistering first half for Galatasaray.
In the second half, Abdulkerim Bardakci added another for the visitors with a header in the 60th minute. Demirspor managed a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the 79th minute, courtesy of Gravillon, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
With this win, Galatasaray, with a game in hand, is now just one point behind Mourinho's Fenerbahce at the top of the Süper Lig standings, while Demirspor drops to the bottom with only one point and a -7 goal difference.
