Nicolo Barella will stay at Inter Milan
Inter Milan has announced the extension of midfielder Nicolo Barella's contract for three more seasons, keeping him with the club until 2029. This makes him the highest-paid Italian player in Serie A.
"Inter announces that it has reached an agreement to extend the contract of player Nicolò Barella. The midfielder, born in 1997, will be with the Nerazzurri until June 30, 2029," the Scudetto-winning club said in a statement.
Despite dealing with some minor injuries while with the Italian national team for EURO 2024, Barella remains a doubt for Italy's opening match against Albania in Group B, which also includes Spain and Croatia. He is expected to be a key player for Luciano Spalletti in the tournament, having been instrumental in Inter's recent successes.
"Today I am extremely happy and excited to sign my contract extension with Inter for so many years. I never had any doubts: I believe in this project and, above all, I wanted this signing to happen before the EURO. I am really proud to defend the colors of this great club for a long time," Barella told the club's official media.
Additionally, according to local media, this extension will make him the highest-paid Italian player in Serie A, surpassing his teammate and compatriot Alessandro Bastoni, who is also in Germany for the EURO.
