Juventus Takes Drastic Action Against One of Its Stars
Italian winger Federico Chiesa is not part of Juventus' plans for the upcoming season. The club has even sidelined him in training sessions, trying to push for a quick exit. This leaves Chiesa in limbo just one day before the start of the Italian championship.
Serie A kicks off this Saturday, but Juve’s first match is on Monday against Como 1907, the team of Spanish star Cesc Fábregas. Chiesa, however, will definitely not be part of that game, as he has been training separately from the squad since Friday. He's joined by other players not included in the plans of coach Thiago Motta, who made it clear a few days ago that Chiesa isn't in his plans.
“We’ve been clear with Chiesa internally. The club is trying to find solutions for him, but he also needs to look for options quickly, for his own good, the good of the team, and everyone involved,” Motta said back on August 3 when preseason started.
Chiesa is under contract until 2025, but Juventus wants to sell him before then to avoid losing him for free. From January 1, 2025, Chiesa would be free to negotiate with any club.
Roma could be a possible destination for the Italian international, who impressed Europe during the 2021 Euros with the Azzurra. However, the Giallorossi, who are also dealing with a potential move for Paulo Dybala to Saudi football, aren’t in the Champions League, something that doesn’t fully appeal to Chiesa.
For now, until his future is decided, Chiesa will be watching Juventus’ matches from the stands.
