Gasperini Wants Real Madrid in UEFA Super Cup
The Italian coach confirmed that he will stay with Atalanta next season and expressed his desire to face Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.
Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed this Sunday, after the 3-0 victory against Torino in Serie A, that he will continue as Atalanta's coach next season.
Despite having a contract until June 2025, there were many rumors in Italy about Gasperini's departure from Atalanta after eight seasons, crowned by the Europa League title that 'La Dea' won this Wednesday against Bayer Leverkusen, the first European title in the club's history.
However, the coach denied all rumors, including his rumored move to Napoli, after the match against Torino.
"De Laurentiis (Napoli's president) has praised me for many years, and I am flattered by that. Napoli will make their choice, but I am committed to Atalanta and will continue to be. I have never said anything to the contrary about my stay in Bergamo. I just wanted to focus on the games. Atalanta's commitment was above all else, and I never gave room to other discussions," he told Sky Sports Italia.
"There is a very strong bond with the club and mutual affection. We have been together for many years, and there have never been any problems. I have always been linked to Atalanta. After eight years, some wear and tear may appear, but that is normal," he added.
Additionally, he expressed his preference to play the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid, which will play the Champions League final next Saturday against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
"We have achieved a feat, and we are aware of it. Bergamo continues to celebrate this week. Next season will be difficult, but I don't think more than this one. More is impossible; we played every three days. If anything, we will add the UEFA Super Cup, which would be great against Real Madrid..." he concluded.
